ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said he didn’t raise his voice or use foul language toward plate umpire Scott Barry when he walked off the mound in the fifth inning of the Yankees’ 9-5 loss to the Rays on Saturday.
“I said I thought he missed a couple of pitches. I didn’t raise my voice and I didn’t swear at him,’’ said Rothschild, who nevertheless was ejected by Barry.
Girardi, on the other hand, did raise his voice and covered the plate with dirt after he was tossed by Barry while standing up for Rothschild.
