A stressful final week of managing Alex Rodriguez took its toll on Joe Girardi, who openly wept during his postgame press conference following A-Rod’s final game as a Yankee.
Peppered with questions since the Yankees’ bizarre plan was made public Sunday to let Rodriguez remain on the team, then release him following Friday’s game, Girardi finally broke after the Yankees’ 6-3 win over the Rays.
“Some people think that I wanted to make negative decisions, but that’s not the case,” an emotional Girardi said. “I have a huge heart. If this is the last time he plays, I wanted it to be something he never forgot.
