DETROIT - Joe Girardi could empathize with Reds manager Bryan Price.
The Yankees manager rarely discusses in-game strategy and only grudgingly gives out information regarding injuries and who may or may not be available to him for a given game.
But having played in big-media markets Chicago and New York and serving as manager of the Yankees, Girardi knows the deal.
"I think playing here, working here, working in the media being a broadcaster, managing, watching Joe [Torre], I got a better understanding of what it was like," Girardi said Tuesday.
"And I think the one thing that you don't realize as a player about the media is how competitive the media is and how important it is for that person to break a story or that sort of thing.
