Joe Girardi has agreed to join MLB Network, the Sporting News reported.
The former Yankees manager had hinted he wanted to return to broadcasting after the team decided not to bring him back following its surprising run to Game 7 of the ALCS.
Girardi was considered a fringe candidate for ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” booth, a source recently said, but that gig went to Alex Rodriguez. Aaron Boone left that job to replace Girardi as the Yankees manager.
Girardi had previously worked for the YES Network and used that as a springboard for the manager’s job, but he was not interested in being so close to his former players.
