CLEVELAND -- Joe Girardi decided Jacoby Ellsbury could use a day to clear his head.
The struggling centerfielder, mired in his worst slump of the season, was not in Wednesday night's starting lineup. Brett Gardner was the leadoff hitter and played centerfield.
"He's just been struggling," Girardi said before the game. "I thought I would just give him a day and let him do some work and see if we can get him back on track."
