Joe Girardi: Alex Rodriguez not ‘comfortable’ at first base — yet

BOSTON — Manager Joe Girardi opted not to play Alex Rodriguez at first base Wednesday against Red Sox left-hander Henry Owens, but the manager said it’s possible, with more time to work around the bag, that the designated hitter could be a fit at some point.

“I don’t think Alex is ready to do it. If we get into a crazy game or an emergency [maybe],’’ said Girardi, who brought up the subject last weekend in Atlanta as a way to get more right-handed bats into the lineup against the Red Sox, who started lefties Monday and Wednesday.
