SAN DIEGO — The Mets’ almost forgotten free-agent addition is nearing his debut with the club.
Jed Lowrie could join the team as soon as Friday, according to manager Mickey Callaway, potentially providing a needed lineup spark.
Lowrie, who arrived on a two-year deal worth $20 million in January, missed all of spring training rehabbing from a sprained capsule in his left knee. He is scheduled to play a rehab game for Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday then be evaluated for removal from the injured list.
It’s expected Lowrie will become the team’s primary third baseman, moving Todd Frazier to the bench.
