James Paxton’s left glute injury dampens Yankees’ win

ARLINGTON, Texas — In a season dominated by injuries, the Yankees ran away in the AL East with some of their biggest stars barely getting dressed.

Watching James Paxton, their likely Game 1 starter next week in the ALDS, leave Friday night after an inning against the Rangers with a tight left glute sprouted concerns the Yankees might have to turn to somebody else in the biggest game of the year, when the opponent is expected to be the Twins at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees halted a two-game losing streak with a 14-7 victory in front of 35,168 at Globe Life Park that will be an expensive win if Paxton’s injury shelves the left-hander.
