Those who expected Jacoby Ellsbury back for the Yankees when he was eligible to come off the disabled Thursday will be disappointed.
The injury-prone center fielder, who has been out with a strained right oblique, now has a hip injury that will keep him out even longer, manage Aaron Boone said Tuesday.
“[Ellsbury] is dealing with a little bit of a hip thing, so he’s been shut down for a couple days,” Boone said before the Yankees were scheduled to play their home opener against the Rays.
He had been working out at the team’s minor league complex in Tampa.
