Jacoby Ellsbury gets first nibble of MLB interest from Cubs

Could Jacoby Ellsbury be coming out of his two-year hibernation?

The Cubs are at least considering bringing the former Yankee in, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.

Heyman described it as a “long shot,” but the Cubs do need a leadoff hitter and the 36-year-old Ellsbury is available after the Yankees released the oft-injured outfielder in November. He would likely not cost much for the Cubs, who have had a quiet offseason.

Signed to a seven-year, $153 million contract in 2013 from the Red Sox, Ellsbury was a massive flop. The two-time World Series champion in Boston didn’t appear in a single game the last two seasons due to a series of maladies.
