Jacoby Ellsbury got a text from Joe Girardi Friday. It probably didn't have any smiley faces or LOLs. It told Ellsbury he was not going to start Friday night against Mets lefthander Steven Matz.
The move was a bit of a surprise since Ellsbury had two hits in the Yankees' last game Wednesday. The first one snapped an 0-for-25 skid.
But Girardi chose to play Chris Young in leftfield and Brett Gardner in center against Matz. Young, who hit cleanup, had a sacrifice fly in the first inning to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
"It's difficult," Girardi said.
