CHICAGO — Joe Girardi believed the extra days of rest Ivan Nova received going into Sunday’s game against the White Sox would help the pitcher’s right arm, which felt fatigue after his last start.
Based on the way Nova threw Sunday, the rest certainly paid off. So, too, did having the Yankees hitters punish Jeff Samardzija.
Nova’s six innings added to the potent lineup resulted in a 12-3 Yankees victory over the White Sox in front of 38,840 at U.S. Cellular Field.
The victory sent the Yankees home from a 10-game road trip with a 6-4 ledger and a six-length lead in the AL East.
