Ivan Nova's outing soured after the worst had seemed to be behind him. The Yankees starter spent most of the day maneuvering through the top of the Blue Jays order as if he wasn't facing some of the most dangerous hitters in baseball.
Then came the sixth inning.
The righthander gave up two walks and a single to put Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion on base. Justin Smoak, the next batter, turned an 81-mph curve ball into a grand slam to right-center field.
The Yankees' bullpen and bats floundered from there in a 6-0 loss Saturdy at the Stadium.
