Ivan Nova an uncertainty for Yankees playoff roster

BALTIMORE — Ivan Nova had a harsh one-word summation of his season after another clunker Saturday afternoon:

“Bad.”

But there’s hope for redemption for Nova, since he could make the Yankees’ postseason roster as a long man if they advance past Tuesday’s American League wildcard game.

Nova (6-11) allowed five runs and eight hits in 5.2 innings in the Yanks’ 9-2 loss to the Orioles in the first game of a split doubleheader at Camden Yards. He has dropped four consecutive decisions for the first time in his career.

But Joe Girardi said Nova’s dreary outing did not change his mindset about Nova’s chance at the postseason roster, though the manager did not indicate whether that was a positive or not.
