LAS VEGAS — Oy, the Baseball Hall of Fame.
In line with seemingly everything else in this country, it just keeps growing more divisive, with Sunday’s announcement the latest blow.
Lord help me if I ever begrudge anyone for gaining induction to the national pastime’s hallowed ground, so good for outfielder-designated hitter Harold Baines, who stunningly drew enough support from the Today’s Game Committee — 12-of-16 votes, just meeting the 75-percent threshold — to join Lee Smith (a perfect 16-for-16) as electees for next summer’s Hall induction ceremony.
But I will call out exclusion, and the takeaway from this news glared as loudly as a George Steinbrenner diatribe against a Yankees manager:
In what universe did Baines impact Major League Baseball more than The Boss from 1988?
