Indians sign Joba Chamberlain, joke about his worst moment

The Cleveland Indians made a promise in signing Joba Chamberlain: No more midges.

The former Yankees phenom signed a minor league deal with the Indians, the team announced Tuesday, that includes an invitation to big league spring training.

And the Indians’ Twitter account showed a sense of humor in assuring Chamberlain he would be free from the pests who came off Lake Erie to swarm him during the Game 2 of 2007 ALDS.

The rookie fireballer had electrified New York by allowing just one earned run in 24 innings of lights-out relief, but that night, under duress from the bugs, Chamberlain blew the save by coughing up the tying run of an eventual 11-inning loss that put the Yankees in an insurmountable 2-0 series hole.
