The Yankees currently have six starters — or not enough.
After Ivan Nova made an impressive return to the rotation Wednesday, manager Joe Girardi tabled public comment about how the Yankees will reduce to the standard five-man group for several days.
The manager is not needed, however, to clearly see the issue. Michael Pineda, Masahiro Tanaka and Nova are in the rotation. So is CC Sabathia, because his bloated salary trumps his swollen ERA — at least for a while longer. Adam Warren is outpitching Nathan Eovaldi. But Warren has experience as a good setup man, and the Yankees are craving righty relief competence.
