Brett Gardner will make his All-Star debut Tuesday night in Cincinnati mainly because Kansas City’s Alex Gordon got hurt a week ago.
Gardner didn’t receive enough votes from fans to even approach becoming a starter and originally wasn’t named to the team by American League manager Ned Yost. As for his appearance on the Final Vote list, the Yankees’ left fielder never stood a chance against the Royals’ Mike Moustakas.
Really, it’s the perfect way for Gardner to get there.
“He’s still under the radar,” CC Sabathia said. “I thought he should have made it last year and won the Gold Glove.
