How Yankees might pull off a long shot and sign Bryce Harper

Every logical instinct tells you that Bryce Harper will play his home games somewhere other than The Bronx in 2019 and beyond.

Yet if you needed any reason to put the Harper-to-the-Yankees in the “Never say never” box, rather than the plain “Never” column, you needed only to listen to Yankee Stadium public-address announcer Paul Olden introducing Giancarlo Stanton as the Yankees’ designated hitter Tuesday night against Harper’s Nationals.

The Yankees’ owners still love stars, and their baseball operations people adore young talent. Harper, who entered Tuesday’s action leading the National League in home runs (19) and walks (48), fits both categories, as does Stanton, whom virtually no one a year ago pegged as an imminent Yankee.
