How Yankees have tried fixing Nathan Eovaldi's 100-mph fastball

CLEVELAND — Nathan Eovaldi throws hard. Very hard. When Eovaldi made his bullpen debut Wednesday in the Yankees' loss to the White Sox in Chicago, his fastball averaged 100 mph and topped out at 102 mph.

Yet out of the 11 swings hitters took at it that night, not one missed.

It wasn't exactly atypical for Eovaldi. Despite the incredible fastball velocity his right arm generates, the 26-year-old has had trouble striking out hitters and limiting hits throughout his major-league career.

His most recent performance slide earned him a demotion to reliever and has the Yankees shaking their heads, unsure how to help Eovaldi miss more bats with a pitch so fast most people wouldn't even it see coming at them.
