How Yankees gave to disabled kids — who gave right back

Amy Palmiero-Winters and her group of young athletes from the One Step Ahead Foundation have had to overcome a lot. Tuesday, for a change, was a day to forget about the physical disabilities they may have.

It was already supposed to be a memorable day for them, a trip to the USA Track and Field Hall of Fame at the Armory in Washington Heights. The Yankees made it a day they will likely never forget.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi and players Gary Sanchez, Jacoby Ellsbury, Adam Warren, Ronald Torreyes, Chad Green and Jonathan Holder surprised the group Tuesday afternoon at the track and field center, as part of the ninth annual Hope Week, during which the team provides acts of goodwill to those less fortunate.
