CHICAGO -- The tools were there: the strong arm, the range, the lefty bat. But something else really stood out to Yankees brass when Tyler Wade flew from southern California to attend team's predraft workout at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa in 2013.
"Tyler came to our workout, no parents, and he handled himself lie a real pro," Yankees Vice President and Director of Amateur Scouting Damon Oppenheimer said in a phone interview. "He seemed mature beyond his years."
Manager Joe Girardi will expect the same attitude from the 22-year-old Wade when he shows up to the Yankees' clubhouse for the first time Tuesday.
