TAMPA — Greg Bird’s locker is in the corner of the clubhouse at George M. Steinbrenner Field and he appears to fit in with the rest of his Yankee teammates.
But Bird’s 2016 season ended before it even began thanks to surgery to repair a torn labrum that worsened during pre-spring training workouts.
So his focus has turned to rehab. And he’s trying to get the most out of being surrounded by teammates — including some who have undergone similar procedures — while they are around.
“I was going to make a point to talk to as many people as I could even before I got hurt,” Bird said.
