NEW YORK — Michael Pineda didn't know he would be starting the Yankees' series finale with the Tampa Bay Rays until late Tuesday afternoon.
Pineda, who was originally scheduled to take the mound on Friday against the Boston Red Sox, was preparing to throw a side yesterday when manager Joe Girardi told him he would have to pitch on Wednesday due to the injury to Masahiro Tanaka.
Despite the short notice, Girardi said before the game that he didn't think Pineda would miss a beat against the Rays.
"It shouldn't be a factor," Giradi said.
