By June 23 Chase Headley had committed a career-high 16 errors in 69 games and it appeared the sure-handed third baseman was on the way to a brutal season in the field.
When asked about the high error total Headley vowed to “clean it up.’’
In 17 games since June 23, Headley hasn’t made an error. It’s easily the longest streak of the season for Headley without a miscue.
So what did he do to clean it up?
“I did the extra work, but it wasn’t one thing to look at. More than anything I had gotten to the point a little bit where I was getting caught in between hops,’’ Headley said of the fielding errors, of which there are nine.
