Christian Lopez didn't want to hog history, but he understands Zack Hample's decision to do so. Hample caught Alex Rodriguez's 3,000th hit on Friday night - a home run off of Justin Verlander - and refused to return the ball to the Yankees slugger.
Saturday morning on ESPN, Hample said he would be willing to work with A-Rod and the Yankees in a joint venture to raise money for a charity.
Conversely, Lopez, who caught Derek Jeter's 3,000th hit — also a home run — in the left centerfield bleachers in 2011, immediately returned the ball to the Yankee Captain, no strings attached, becoming a hero among Yankee fans in the process.
