Gregorius providing everything work-in-progress Yankees need

So far, so … raw? Unfinished? Awkward like a pubescent teenager?

It makes sense, right? You don’t blossom from a Baby Bomber to a perfectly formed adult, nor from a South Florida stud to a Bronx beast, overnight.

Hence the fittingness of Didi Gregorius being the best thing so far about this young Yankees season.

The Yankees’ home opener ended as they wanted, an 11-4 pummeling of the Rays Tuesday in wintry conditions to lift their record to 3-2. The journey to the win proved just as challenging as the path to first pitch, as a Monday postponement (snow) and a Tuesday delay (rain) foreshadowed the slog of a Yankee Stadium contest during which the team’s beleaguered bullpen blew a 4-1 lead in the sixth and Giancarlo Stanton, in his pinstriped debut, registered an amazing platinum sombrero, striking out in all five at-bats and receiving his first home-crowd boos after the final whiff.
