TORONTO – Yankee rookie Greg Bird is keeping some interesting company these days.
The first baseman, who homered for the second straight game Monday night, has nine round-trippers this season, which is the third-most through a players’ first 33 games as a Yankee.
He trails only Kevin Maas (12) and Shane Spencer (11). Bird also has 25 RBI in 33 games, which is the most over that span since Hideki Matsui had 26 RBI in his first 33 games back in 2003.
Who knows if Bird will have the type of sustained success the beloved Matsui did or if he’ll be a shooting star of sorts, like Maas and Spencer.
