BOSTON — The numbers weren’t pretty for Greg Bird.
Whether it was 0-for-16, 1-for-22 or 5-for-50, they were all ugly.
And before his RBI single in the sixth inning of Wednesday’s 3-1 win over the Red Sox, Bird was hitless in eight at-bats, with five strikeouts against Rick Porcello.
Then he lined an opposite field single off the Green Monster with two outs to score Aaron Judge to give the Yankees a three-run lead in the sixth.
“I wouldn’t say I’ve been looking at my stats,” Bird said.
“Obviously, I know that I’m off to a little bit of a slow start.
