Fifty years ago this morning, New Yorkers nursing their New Year’s Eve hangovers snapped open their morning papers and were greeted by a couple of interesting things.
In all of the dailies, Diners Fugazy Travel — with 13 branches conveniently located all across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut — ran an advertisement shouting: “SUPER DEAL FOR THE SUPER BOWL.”
And it was, too. For $79, Fugazy would provide you a ticket in the Orange Bowl for “The NFL-AFL Third World Championship” between the Jets and the Colts 11 days hence; four days and three nights of luxurious hotel accommodations in Miami; a rental car; three breakfasts and three dinners.
