KANSAS CITY -- Sonny Gray threw a four-hitter through eight innings and Tyler Austin launched a pair of two-run homers to lift the Yankees to a 10-1 victory over the Royals on Sunday at Kauffman Stadium.
The Yankees (30-13) took two of three in the weekend series and have now won eight series in a row. New York hasn't won nine consecutive series since July 20 through Aug. 20 in 1998.
Gray, working on eight days' rest, didn't allow a hit until the fifth when Hunter Dozier singled.
