Girardi calls out Didi Gregorius for ‘stupid’ base-running gaffe

Sports

Didi Gregorius hit a solo homer in the second inning, but it was his base-running blunder in the bottom of the seventh cost the Yankees a chance at a comeback.

Joe Girardi isn’t one to call out his players often, no matter the transgression.

But after Didi Gregorius’ base-running gaffe cost the Yankees at least a run in Wednesday’s 5-2 loss to the A’s, the manager made an exception.

Gregorius helped Oakland end the bottom of the seventh by practically running into third baseman Chris Coghlan, allowing himself to be tagged for the second out on Aaron Hicks’ one-out chopper.
