Giancarlo’s two homers lead Yankees to 3-2 win over Red Sox

NEW YORK — Another day, another Yankee victory. After 35 games, the Yankees are finally back atop the American League East standings after defeating the Boston Red Sox, 3-2, in Tuesday night’s series opener at Yankee Stadium.

Giancarlo Stanton continued to mash left-handed pitching, as he provided all of New York’s offense against Drew Pomeranz. His eighth and ninth shots of the year gave the Bombers the early lead with staff ace Luis Severino on the mound.

While Severino was excellent, Boston did make him work, which limited him to six innings, as he threw 109 pitches on the night.
