Giancarlo Stanton’s ex-manager is unsure how boos will affect star

Giancarlo Stanton may not have been subject to many boos while rising to stardom in Miami, but his old Marlins manager was hardly surprised by New York’s reaction to the outfielder’s early struggles.

Don Mattingly spent 14 years in a Yankees uniform, so hearing that boos rained down on Stanton during a pair of five-strikeout games in his first week in The Bronx was status quo.

“It’s New York,” Mattingly said Monday in the visitors’ dugout at Yankee Stadium before the Yankees beat the Marlins 12-1. “You struggle, you pay, that’s all there is to it. It’s a day-in, day-out place.
