Giancarlo Stanton strikes out 5 times, hears boos in Bronx debut

John Sterling may have to learn how to say “whiff” in Italian.

New Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton did not do any slugging in his debut in the home pinstripes on Tuesday. He went 0-for-5 with five strikeouts — four swinging and one looking — in the Bombers’ 11-4 win over the Rays. The fourth and fifth strikeouts drew hearty rounds of boos from the small, rain-soaked Yankee Stadium crowd.

Welcome to New York.

It is a good thing Stanton hit two home runs on Opening Day last week or the cries about a slow start would be growing louder.
