TAMPA, Fla. - Giancarlo Stanton had every reason to feel a little nervous Friday afternoon as he made his highly-anticipated spring training debut with his new team that's full of lofty expectations.
But the New York Yankees right fielder, who's entering the fourth year of a 13-year, $325 million contract, contended the butterflies were quiet the moment he stepped onto George M. Steinbrenner Field in pinstripes for the first time. They remained that way the remainder of his four-inning appearance, he said.
"Once I get in between the lines, it's ready to go," Stanton said.
