TORONTO — It took only two pitches for Giancarlo Stanton to begin fulfilling his lofty expectations as the latest Yankees slugger.
Stanton, known for his prodigious blasts, walloped a two-run homer on Thursday in his first at-bat as a Yankee, giving his team an early 2-0 lead over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Stanton, the reigning National League most valuable player, lined an 0-1 pitch from the left-hander J.A. Happ over the right-field wall in the first inning, scoring Brett Gardner.
It was Stanton’s fourth home run in four career games at Rogers Centre and the 268th of his career.
