Giancarlo Stanton confident despite no spring homers

LAKELAND, Fla. — Watch Giancarlo Stanton take batting practice and it’s impossible to ignore him flipping line drives to right field, so it’s not a surprise he believes everything at the plate is related to that.

“As long as I have oppo the rest will come,’’ the right-handed hitting Stanton said of hitting the ball to the opposite field. “If I am hooking everything, we are not in a good situation. But it is good now.’’

Six games into the exhibition schedule, Stanton doesn’t have a home run, but that is not alarming to him.

“I have hit a bunch of homers in spring and I haven’t hit any homers and that didn’t translate to much from what I remember,’’ Stanton said.
