STAMFORD, Conn. — Even rappelling down a building can’t serve as an escape from Brian Cashman’s professional responsibilities.
The Yankees general manager has been participating in this town’s “Heights & Lights” holiday program for so long now that the occupants of the Landmark Building come prepared. Hence on his second trip down the 22-story building Friday morning, Cashman saw the sign — on 8 ½ X 11 paper, he reported, produced on a printer — posted on the window of somewhere around the 11th floor:
“SIGN GERRIT COLE.”
Cashman made clear here what The Post’s Joel Sherman reported earlier this week: While he can’t guarantee such a gift for Yankees fans, the Yankees would like nothing more this winter than to land either Cole or Stephen Strasburg, the two Southern California natives Cashman traveled across the country to meet and recruit this past week.
