Our side of the Hudson offers breathtaking views of the New York skyline. Millions marvel daily at the majesty of structures like the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and the Freedom Tower. I'm willing to bet, however, that most of those same people couldn't name the architect of these magnificent edifices if asked. No matter, they are amazing just the same.
The architects who designed these buildings were mostly content to remain anonymous, sitting back quietly while their creations took center stage, inspiring awe.
Gene "Stick" Michael, who passed away suddenly at his home in Florida today, was the silent, unsung architect of another New York landmark: the Yankees dynasty of the 1990s and 2000s.
