Gary Sanchez’s return had a bit of everything — except a hit

Gary Sanchez was back from his mini-break Thursday night after just two games. The next few games will show whether or not he’s back from his slump.

The struggling catcher returned to the lineup in the Yankees’ 4-3 win over the Rays, and his night was the definition of a mixed bag. He wasn’t sharp or crisp, but he was resilient — and that counts in manager Aaron Boone’s view.

Sanchez started his night by striking out on a pitch in the dirt, but bounced back to walk twice and score a run. He made an error in the sixth, but redeemed himself by throwing out a runner the next inning.
