Gary Sanchez making 2018 look like the aberration

The further this season goes, the better Gary Sanchez hits, and the more last year looks like some strange kind of anomaly or mirage.

One of those unexplainable bad years all players go through, because so far the Yankees catcher hardly resembles the inconsistent player they saw last year.

Saturday night’s game-winning home run was just the latest example.

“We’re obviously just fortunate to have him on our side,” Brett Gardner said.

Sanchez’s fifth-inning, opposite-field shot sent the Yankees to a 5-3 victory over the Red Sox in The Bronx, extending their lead over their bitter rivals to 9 ¹/u2082 games in the AL East.
