CLEVELAND — Gary Sanchez could play in a minor league rehab game on Sunday if his strained right groin continues to improve.
“He is doing well, I think it is close,’’ Aaron Boone said of Sanchez testing the area in the minors. “We will talk about it in the next couple of days. I think [Sunday] is a possibility.’’
Barring a setback, the Yankees hope to have Sanchez back for next Friday’s Subway Series game against the Mets at Yankee Stadium. Sanchez hasn’t played since June 24 against the Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla.
