Garrett Jones’ Yankees exile was brief

Garrett Jones is back with the Yankees.

The left-handed hitter was designated for assignment when the Yankees traded for Seattle’s Dustin Ackley last week, but he was brought back Wednesday — one day after Ackley was placed on the DL with a herniated disk.

Jones had five homers and 17 RBIs when he was DFA’d. The Yankees preferred Ackley’s ability to play first, second and the outfield, but he was only able to last three at-bats before going down with an injury that could cost him the rest of the season if surgery is needed.

Jones was acquired in the offseason, along with Nathan Eovaldi, from the Marlins in exchange for David Phelps and Martin Prado.
