CLEVELAND — The Yankees designated Garrett Jones for assignment for the second time in 13 days Wednesday to make room for some much-needed bullpen help after Tuesday’s 16-inning loss to the Indians.
Jones, who returned to the Yankees on Aug. 5, but hadn’t appeared in a game, was informed he was being let go before the Yankees faced the Indians on Wednesday night.
“It’s a little tougher the second time,’’ said Jones, who is well-liked in the clubhouse and with the coaching staff. “It’s a little different feeling than the last time. There still could be an opportunity to help this team win.
