Yankees pitching prospect Justus Sheffield was named to the Futures Game on Thursday, part of MLB’s All-Star week activities.
The lefty is 2-3 with a 2.61 ERA in 10 starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He spent time on the DL in May with shoulder tightness, but is coming off two of his best outings. In his past two starts, Sheffield gave up just one run in 13 innings, walking three while striking out 10.
While the Yankees look to make improvements to their rotation through a trade this month, the 22-year-old could prove to be an option later in the season.
