Forgotten Yankees starter aiming for August return

Jordan Montgomery hasn’t received the attention other injured Yankees have because he wasn’t lost during spring training or early in the season.

Nevertheless, the lefty starter is making progress on the way back from Tommy John surgery he had last June.

“That was my last bullpen [session] at 30 pitches,” he said after a workout at the Yankees’ minor-league complex. “I’ll start incorporating curveballs next Tuesday and Friday and I’ll add five more pitches. Strengthening is coming along, and I’m not getting over too eager letting it go yet.”

According to Montgomery, his return in August isn’t out of the question.
