NEW YORK — On October 26, 1996, the Yankees beat the Atlanta Braves in Game 6 for their first World Series championship in 18 years, third baseman Charlie Hayes catching the final out in foul ground by the stands at old Yankee Stadium.
He said he's asked about that play every day.
"Every day (I'm asked)," Hayes said Sunday at the Stadium for Old-Timers' Day. "I don't think it's ever going to go away. I thought by now people would have forgotten about it, but I guess it was a very significant moment in Yankees history and I'm glad to actually be part of it.
