Yankees GM Brian Cashman will turn to a former Red Sox to be his top lieutenant.
Cashman has decided to promote Tim Naehring, whose entire playing career was spent in Boston, to fill Billy Eppler's old role, a source confirmed. Eppler, who left in October to become the Angels GM, was Cashman's assistant GM. A source said that the Yankees are reorganizing their whole player personnel department. Naehring will not have the assistant GM title, though, he will take on Eppler's old responsibilities.
Since being hired as a scout by the Yankees in 2007, following a stint in the Reds' organization, Naehring has impressed Cashman.
