Stephen Drew’s season at the plate makes as much sense as the sudden Alex Rodriguez love-in.
The Yankees second baseman isn’t hitting for average (.188). He isn’t getting on base (.254 on-base percentage). But he does have 11 home runs — third most on the team. Thirty-six percent of his 40 hits have gone over the wall, and of his 24 RBIs, 17 have come as the result of the long ball.
He’s the Yankees’ modern-day version of Rob Deer, the former Brewers power hitter who was known for hitting home runs and doing little else.
It continued Sunday in the Tigers’ 12-4 romp at Yankee Stadium.
